L'Ensemble, the musical organization that has been presenting unique chamber music programs in New York State and Vermont for some twenty years, has inaugurated a series of concerts in historic homes.

Core members of L'Ensemble, Lincoln Mayorga, pianist, Ida Faiella, soprano (founder and artistic director) and Barry Finclair, violinist, presented music of Foster, Gottschalk, Beach, Kreisler, Rachmaninoff and MacDowell, in the historic town of Troy, New York. The event took place in a nineteenth century home where MacDowell himself performed more than a hundred years ago.

At the Troy concert, Lincoln acknowledges the applause after his solo performances of "The Banjo", by Gottschalk, and selections from MacDowell's "Woodland Sketches. The piano is a Knabe, made by the venerable firm in 1895.

Lincoln's daughter, Teresa (above left), and her friend Jackie Christensen (right), blew in from Salt Lake City for a short visit and attended the L'Ensemble concert. Teresa is now working with her father on a new plan to distribute the historic catalogue of Sheffield Lab Recordings. Watch this newsletter for developments.

While listening to a playback in the studio, it is apparent that Lincoln has an idea! Do you suppose he will share it with us? Don't miss the next newsletter.

There is a brand new CD that just came out featuring Lincoln as soloist in the "Second Rhapsody" by George Gershwin, orchestrated by Ferde Grofe. Two suites for orchestra by Grofe are also on the disc, his Mississippi Suite and the famous Grand Canyon Suite, along with Grofe's Rhapsody for Saxophone which features ninety-one year old Al Gallodoro, for whom it was written.

Steve Richman is the conductor of the New York Harmonie Ensemble in this recording, which he researched and put together. The CD is on the Bridge label. We will have it available soon on the TownHall web site, but in the meantime, you can order it through Kate Baldwin. The address is info@townhallrecords.com.
