Sheri and Lincoln were guest artists at the Chautauqua Festival in western New York, and performed their "American Snapshots" program for a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable audience. The photo shows the couple on the steps of the Victorian cottage where they stayed in the same room once occupied by Bill and Hilary. If you've never been to Chautauqua, do make a visit. It is the most remarkable summer festival of arts, culture, and intellectual pursuit, which has been going on in this charming village for 130 years or so.
Lincoln's daughter Teresa made the trip from Salt Lake City, combining a stay with Dad with a business trip for Sheffield Lab Recordings. They made a visit to Olana, former home of the great Hudson River artist, Frederick Church. Teresa is shown with Lincoln on the steps of the mansion.
Standing against the fence with Lincoln is the key person in the business affairs of TownHall Records and Sheffield Lab, vice-president Kate Baldwin. She, Teresa, and Lincoln had a "power" meeting with Hudson Audio Visual Enterprises, manufacturing and fulfillment center for the two labels.
Lincoln gave a solo piano concert in Camarillo, California, which included Schubert's big piece for piano, the Wanderer Fantasy, as well as Lyric Pieces by Grieg and other music by Beethoven, Schubert, Joplin, Gershwin, and Mayorga. The concert was given at Mount Cross Lutheran Church to a capacity crowd which included many old friends and neighbors from the eighteen years Lincoln lived in this community. In the photo above, Lincoln is presented with flowers by concert series director, Barbara D'Addario.
At the Camarillo concert, Lincoln's friend and colleague, Bruce Belland, showed up and graciously accepted an impromptu invitation to sing a couple of songs with Lincoln. Bruce and Lincoln started out together in the music world fifty years ago with The Four Preps, Bruce as lead singer and Lincoln as musical director. They continue their association with concerts all over the country. Check out 2HistoryMakingHitMakers2.
The climax of the fall activity was the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in, of all places, Las Vegas. Sheri and Lincoln hosted a booth with Francois and Ann Schnabel Mottier of the Schnabel Music Foundation and Mary Lou and Charlie Dubin, producers of the documentary on Karl Ulrich Schnabel and his teaching, "Con Brio." The Schnabel Music Foundation, through TownHall Records, is making the recordings of the Schnabel family (Karl Ulrich, Helen, Therese and Artur) available, along with publishing the compositions of Artur Schnabel, the internationally revered pianist/composer/teacher of the first half of the twentieth century. The photos are not great, but they will give you an idea of the event.
The first one shows Mary Lou, half of Lincoln, the longhaired back of conference organizer Benjamin Saver, Ann Mottier and two of Benjamin's video production associates from Germany. The photos on the curtain are of Ann's father, pianist Karl Ulrich Schnabel, Ann's mother, pianist Helen Schnabel, the great singer Therese Behr Schnabel and her husband Artur Schnabel, parents of Karl Ulrich. The second photo shows activity at the booth, and the one below is the view from our booth.
On November 29, Sheri and Lincoln will give a concert, 7 PM at the Library in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, known as the Berkshire Atheneum. The presenter is Joe Levine and information is available by calling 413-442-1256. Lincoln will be giving a private concert for Joe Steinberg and his guests in Brooklyn, NY, on December 10. He says he'll give one in your home, if you ask him (no joke)! Mark your calendar for Sheri's concert with her Columbia County Children's Vocal Ensemble, at the Hudson Opera House on January 11 (with Lincoln at the piano). The dynamic duo will appear together again in concert at Caffe Lena in Saratoga, NY, on February 2 and Lincoln is giving a full program at St. Anselm College, in New Hampshire, on February 10. ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ For additional LINCOLN MAYORGA information, please visit www.lincolnmayorga.com.
